Globalist Quiz – China’s size
Good question from the Globalist Quiz in the Boston Globe newspaper this summer:
China remains a veritable juggernaut, powering ahead and constantly moving up in global economic rankings. What percentage of the global economy does China actually account for?
A. 20%
B. 15%
C. 9%
D. 5%
The answer is 15%. When adjusting for purchasing power, China’s gross domestic product, estimated at $10 trillion in 2006, represents 15.4% of the global economy. By comparison, the US, the world’s leading economy, has a GDP of $13 trillion and accounts for 20% of the global economy. According to the WTO, China accounts for almost 9% of the world’s total exports or $836 billion.
The Globalist Quiz is produced by The Globalist, a Washington-based research organization that promotes awareness of world affairs.
Hope that you enjoyed this quiz.
